NCERT Solutions For Class 6 Maths, Chapter 7, Fractions, Exercise 7.4
Q.1. Write shaded portion as fraction. Arrange them in ascending and descending order using correct sign ‘<’, ‘=’, ‘>’ between the fractions:
(c) Show 2/6, 4/6, 8/6 and 6/6 on the number line. Put appropriate signs between the fractions given.
Ans:
(a) Total parts in circle = 8
(i) No. of shaded portion = 3
∴ Fraction of shaded portion = $\frac{3}{8}$
(ii) No. of shaded portion = 6
∴ Fraction of shaded portion = $\frac{6}{8}$
(iii) No. of shaded portion = 4
∴ Fraction of shaded portion = $\frac{4}{8}$
(iv) No. of shaded portion = 1
∴ Fraction of shaded portion = $\frac{1}{8}$
Now, we have fractions = $\,\frac{3}{8}\,\frac{6}{8}\,\frac{4}{8},\,\frac{1}{8}$
Ascending order: $\,\,\frac{1}{8}\,\,<\,\,\frac{3}{8}\,\,\,<\,\,\frac{4}{8}<\,\,\frac{6}{8}$
(b) Total parts in square = 9
(i) No. of shaded portion = 8
∴ Fraction of shaded portion = $\frac{8}{9}$
(ii) No. of shaded portion = 4
∴ Fraction of shaded portion = $\frac{4}{9}$
(iii) No. of shaded portion = 3
∴ Fraction of shaded portion = $\frac{3}{9}$
(iv) No. of shaded portion = 6
∴ Fraction of shaded portion = $\frac{6}{9}$
Now, we have fractions = $\,\frac{8}{9}\,,\,\frac{4}{9}\,,\frac{3}{9},\,\frac{6}{9}$
Ascending order: $\,\,\frac{3}{9}\,<\,\frac{4}{9}\,<\,\frac{6}{9}<\,\frac{8}{9}$
Descending order: $\,\frac{8}{9}\,>\,\frac{6}{9}\,>\,\frac{4}{9}\,>\,\frac{3}{9}$
(c) here , each unit length is divided into 6 equal parts to represent the fractions $\frac{2}{6}$, $\frac{4}{6}$, $\frac{8}{6}$ and $\frac{6}{6}$ on number line.
Q.2. Compare the fractions and put an appropriate sign.
Ans:
Here both fractions have same denominator, so, the fraction with the greater numerator is greater.
$\therefore \frac{3}{6}<\frac{5}{6}$
Here both fractions have same denominators. So, the fraction with greater numerator is the highest factor
$\therefore \frac{4}{5}<\frac{5}{5}$
Q.3. Make five more such pairs and put appropriate signs.
Ans:
Q.4. Look at the figures and write ‘<’ or ‘>’, ‘=’ between the given pairs of fractions.
Make five more such problems and solve them with your friends.
Ans:
Q.5. How quickly can you do this? Fill appropriate sign. ( ‘<’, ‘=’, ‘>’)
Ans:
Q.6. The following fractions represent just three different numbers. Separate them into three groups of equivalent fractions, by changing each one to its simplest form.
Ans:
Q.7. Find answers to the following. Write and indicate how you solved them.
(a) Is $\frac{5}{9}\,$equal to $\frac{4}{5}\,$ ?
(b) Is $\frac{9}{16}\,$equal to $\frac{5}{9}\,$?
(c) Is $\frac{4}{5}\,$equal to $\frac{16}{20}\,$?
(d) Is $\frac{1}{15}$equal to $\frac{4}{30}$ ?
Ans:
Q.8. Ila read 25 pages of a book containing 100 pages. Lalita read $\frac{2}{5}$ of the same book. Who read less?
Ans: Total number of pages in book = 100
Part of book Lalita read = $\frac{2}{5}\times100$= 40 pages
Ila read = 25 pages
Therefore, Ila read less than Lalita.
Q.9. Rafiq exercised for $\frac{3}{6}$ of an hour, while Rohit exercised for $\frac{3}{4}$of an hour. Who exercised for a longer time?
Ans:
Q.10. In a class A of 25 students, 20 passed with 60% or more marks; in another class B of 30 students, 24 passed with 60% or more marks. In which class was a greater fraction of students getting with 60% or more marks?
Ans: Total number of students in Class A = 25
Students passed in first class in Class A = 20
Hence, fraction = $\frac{20}{25}=\frac{4}{5}$
Total number of students in Class B = 30
Students passed in first class in Class B = 24
Hence, fraction = $\frac{24}{30}=\frac{4}{5}$
Hence, each class have same fraction of student getting with 60% or more marks.
