How much trouser material did he buy?
Ans:
Q.8. Half of a herd of deer are grazing in the field and three fourths of the remaining are playing nearby. The rest 9 are drinking water from the pond. Find the number of deer in the herd.
Ans: Let the total no. of deer = x
According to question,
No. of deer which are Grazing = half of total = $\frac{x}{2}$
Playing = $\frac{x}{2}\times \frac{3}{4}=\frac{3x}{8}$
Drinking water = 9
According to question,
Grazing + playing + drinking = Total no. of deer
⇒ $\frac{x}{2}+\frac{3x}{8}+9=x$
Multiply both sides of equation by 8, we get
⇒ $\left( 8\times \frac{x}{2} \right)+\left( 8\times \frac{3x}{8} \right)+\left( 8\times 9 \right)=8x$
⇒ $4x+3x+72=8x$
⇒ $7x-8x=-72$
⇒ $-x=-72$
⇒ x = 72
Hence, the number of deer in the herd were 72.
Q.9. A grandfather is ten times older than his granddaughter. He is also 54 years older than her. Find their present ages.
Ans:
