Q.1. In ∆ PQR, D is the mid-point of $\overline{QR}$.
(i) $\overline{PM}$is _________.
(ii) $\overline{PD}$is _________.
(iii) Is QM = MR?
Ans:
(i) $\overline{PM}$ is altitude.
(ii) $\overline{PD}$is median.
(iii) Is QM = MR?
No, QM ≠ MR because, D is the mid-point of QR.
Q.2. Draw rough sketches for the following:
(a) In ∆ABC, BE is a median.
(b) In ∆PQR, PQ and PR are altitudes of the triangle.
(c) In ∆XYZ, YL is an altitude in the exterior of the triangle.
Ans:
(a) In ∆ABC, BE is a median.
(b) In ∆PQR, PQ and PR are altitudes of the triangle.
(c) In ∆XYZ, YL is an altitude in the exterior of the triangle.
Q.3. Verify by drawing a diagram if the median and altitude of an isosceles triangle can be same.
Ans: In isosceles triangle, any two sides are same.
Draw a Line segment AP ⊥ BC. It is an altitude for this triangle.
Here, length of BP and PC is also same. So, AP is the median and altitude of this triangle.
